Artistic Director
Cindy Yan, is an internationally sought-after violinist and educator with a distinguished career spanning solo performance, orchestral leadership, chamber music, and elite violin pedagogy across Asia-Pacific.
Ms. Yan graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, China and later obtained her Master of Music degree from the Massey Conservatorium of Music, New Zealand. During her early professional years, she held prestigious positions with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, while maintaining an active Solo and Chamber music career that brought her on extensive tours throughout Asia.
As a professional violinist, Ms. Yan was appointed Principal First Violin of Wellington Sinfonia, leading the orchestra across many concert seasons. She also worked closely with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra as First Violin before accepting engagements as Concertmaster for American Broadway productions touring Asia.
Over multiple performance seasons, she appeared in numerous major productions and international tours, including performances at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, and at the Concertgebouw. She has collaborated with renowned artists and conductors such as Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Pinchas Zukerman, James Judd, Pietari Inkinen, Lin Cho-Liang, Steven Isserlis, Hilary Hahn, and Lang Lang.
Alongside her orchestral career, Cindy Yan remains deeply committed to solo and chamber music. In 2003, she made her New Zealand debut performing the Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto with the Wellington Chamber Orchestra. She later founded and led the Parata String Trio, contributing vibrancy and innovation to New Zealand’s chamber music scene, including performances at the New Zealand International Arts Festival.

Cindy Yan, is a well-sought after violinist for her excellent well-rounded experience in Solo Recital, Orchestra and Chamber works. Ms Yan graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, China and obtained her Masters in Music from Massey Conservatorium of Music, New Zealand.
Internationally acclaimed violinist, Ms Cindy Yan is Resident Violin Educator at National University Symphony Orchestra in Singapore, the NAFA School of Young Talent and, String Ensemble Conductor in Fuchun Primary School. Previously, she held appointments as First Violinist in New Zealand Symphony Orchestra; held the position of Principal First Violin Chair in Orchestra Wellington New Zealand and Concertmaster to Amercian Broadway Touring Orchestra. Ms Yan graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, China and obtained her Masters in Music from Massey Conservatorium of Music, New Zealand. Herstudents are regular prize-winners for many competitions including top prize in the 2017 Singapore National Violin Competition, Tainan Cheers Violin Competition, Singapore Raffles International Music Competition and Singapore Youth Festival String Ensemble Competition.
As a member of the NZ Symphony orchestra, Ms Yan has performed in many esteemed concerts which include performances at the London Royal Albert Hall and the Concertgebouw Hall in Amsterdam, Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts Hall in China, Suntory Concert Hall in Japan, Seoul Arts Centre in Korea.
Ms Yan has also had the great pleasure of working with leading soloists and conductors such as Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Pinchas Zukerman, James Judd, Pietari Inkinen, Lin Cho-liang, Steven Isserlis, Hilary Hann and Lang Lang.
Besides Ms. Cindy’s illustrious career in the orchestra, she is actively involved in performing solo and chamber works too. Cindy debuted in New Zealand the famous “Butterfly Lovers” Violin Concerto in 2003 with the Wellington Chamber Orchestra. She also formed and led Parata string trio which performed regularly and gave colour to New Zealand’s Chamber music scene. The Parata Ensemble recently performed in the 2008 New Zealand International Arts Festival.
Return To Asia
In 2007, Ms. Yan was invited to serve as Concertmaster for an American Broadway company’s Asian tour, leading orchestras such as the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, orchestras in Seoul, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, and Singapore Orchestras. This marked a turning point in her career, leading to long-term engagements across the Asia-Pacific region. She subsequently led and performed in major musical productions including The King and I, Cinderella, and Victor Victoria, and collaborated with the Singapore Lyric Opera and Singapore Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2008, Ms. Yan was invited to represent New Zealand at the Beijing Olympics Music Festival.
A passionate chamber musician, she co-founded the I-Sis Trio, an innovative ensemble of harp, violin, and cello. The trio toured extensively across Hong Kong, Thailand, China, Malaysia, Canada, and beyond, earning acclaim for redefining classical chamber music presentation. I-Sis Trio released their CD Passion in 2011, following an earlier DVD release.
Education, Leadership & Legacy in Singapore
Since relocating to Singapore, Ms. Yan has become a prominent figure in the region’s violin education landscape. She was appointed to teach at the NAFA School of Young Talents and served as violin coach for the National University of Singapore Symphony Orchestra, contributing to the training of young and advanced musicians in Singapore.
Building on this foundation, Cindy later founded RAMP Violin Academy and Del Angel Music, institutions known for their rigorous yet nurturing approach to violin training. Under her guidance, students have achieved outstanding results in international competitions, auditions, and performances across Asia and Europe.
Ms. Yan is also the Artistic Director and Founder of the Singapore Raffles International Music Festival (SRIMF), one of Southeast Asia’s leading international youth music platforms, attracting participants from Asia, Europe, and Australia.
She regularly serves as a jury member for international competitions in Singapore, Taiwan, China, and other regions, and is frequently invited to give masterclasses and workshops in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh, Bangkok, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Wuhai, Shanghai, and Suzhou.
Widely respected for her holistic teaching philosophy, Cindy Yan emphasizes musicianship, artistry, confidence, and stage experience. Her students are regularly featured in solo recitals, ensemble performances, international festivals, and major concert venues.
Through performance, education, and artistic leadership, Cindy Yan continues to shape the next generation of violinists while actively contributing to the classical music ecosystem in Asia.
