The violin is an expressive and versatile instrument, capable of conveying a wide range of colours, textures, and emotions. Learning the violin requires discipline, sensitivity, and imagination, and is both a challenging and deeply rewarding journey.
Ms. Yan offers private violin lessons in Singapore, providing a structured yet nurturing environment for students of different ages and levels. Each student’s programme is individually tailored according to their technical foundation, musical goals, and personal interests—whether pursuing professional training, competition preparation, or long-term musical development.
Her teaching philosophy is shaped by extensive international performing experience and long-standing pedagogical practice. Lessons focus on building solid technical foundations, refined tone production, musical understanding, and confident performance skills. Equal emphasis is placed on listening, ensemble awareness, and regular stage experience, allowing students to develop as complete and expressive musicians.
Since 2010, Ms. Yan has served as violin faculty at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (School of Young Talents) and has coached the National University of Singapore Symphony Orchestra, contributing to the training of young and advanced musicians in Singapore. She has also provided ensemble coaching at Raffles Institution, Nanyang Girls’ High School, and St. Nicholas Girls’ School.
In addition to her teaching work, Ms. Yan is actively involved in string ensemble leadership and conducting. She has conducted the MOE School String Ensemble, leading students to achieve the Distinction with Honours Award at the Singapore Youth Festival, reflecting her ability to guide young musicians in ensemble discipline, musical cohesion, and performance excellence.
Beyond Singapore, Ms. Yan is regularly invited to conduct masterclasses in cities including Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh, Bangkok, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Shanghai, Suzhou. She also serves as a jury member for national and international violin competitions, reflecting the trust placed in her musical judgment and educational experience.
Many of her students have achieved success in competitions, auditions and performances, with several continuing their studies at tertiary and professional institutions. Ms. Yan is committed to guiding students not only toward technical excellence, but also toward musical maturity, confidence, and artistic independence.

Ms Cindy Yan is Resident Violin Educator at the Singapore Nafa school of young talent and National University Symphony Orchestra in Singapore, String Ensemble Conductor in Fuchun Primary School. Her students are winners of several international competitions; highlighted in ABRSM high scorer concerts; and won prestigious competitions such as 2017 Singapore National Piano & Violin Competition, Tainan Violin Competition, Singapore Raffles International Music Competition, Vienna Virtuoso Music Competition, 2016 ARBSM high scorer concert.
Ms Yan is also artistic director to Singapore Raffles International Music Festival, which is an appreciated platform for young children to showcase their talents. The Festival which has been in season for 6 years provides a great stage for young musicians to hone their performance experience, learn from great musicians and build international friendship.
Ms Yan‘s teaching philosophies merge her professional experiences, the lesson are targeted at developing good technique and beautiful tone as well as understanding musical skills. Some of her students have excelled in their studies and many have been inspired to further their studies in music in the tertiary level.
With each program tailored towards each student’s interest and needs, Cindy’s violin studio has inspired students who wish to become professional; create fun and cultivate enjoyment of making music for others and most shared her wisdom and enjoyment of music with the violin.
